PBSA

BREEAM

This purpose-built student accommodation owned and operated by UPP in partnership with University of Exeter achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The development is a village-like campus set into the landscape, hosting 1,182 high quality student bedrooms with shared amenities and social spaces within the University's East Park campus.

Achieved: BREEAM 'Excellent'
Architect: Stride Treglown
Client: UPP

The residences, designed by Stride Treglown Architects and delivered by principal contractor Vinci, are split across three terraces with a fully accessible spine to connect to all levels.

Biodiversity enhancements were thoughtfully integrated into the scheme to reflect the wider University of Exeter Streatham Campus which is well known for its woodlands, lakes, gardens and botanical collections. A central hub which provides multiple shared spaces encourages community-centred living with a view to enhancing the health and wellbeing of students.

This is our fourth collaboration on new purpose built student accommodation with UPP for the University of Exeter where we have now BREEAM certified over 2,500 student bedrooms, and our long term relationship with UPP approaches the 10,000 mark for accommodation which meets BREEAM certification. We are delighted to be working alongside UPP on a new accommodation project with Durham University which will see new build and refurbished student accommodation delivered in multiple phases before 2030.

UPP was established in 1998 and is the UK’s only multi-discipline, full-service Design, Build, Fund and Operate company that is dedicate to the Higher Education sector. They have an established and trusted reputation for delivering next generation campuses at scale and as such have 15 long term partnerships with world-class Universities.

At Carbon.Climate.Certified we consider UPP to be a key, longstanding client who take their responsibility for sustainability seriously. They recognise the value in designing and operating sustainable buildings and have a proven track record in managing and mitigating their environmental impact on every development and we look forward to collaborating on future projects to continue raising the bar.
